Biographical Note:
Mahesh Pant is a researcher and community development worker. He has worked in Nepal and the UK for over 40 years. He obtained his Masters in Agricultural Economics from DEV/UEA in 1987 and PhD from IDS/Sussex in 2002. His PhD thesis applied Sen’s capability approach in studying the nature and extent of poverty in East Nepal.
While in Nepal, he started and managed a Nepali NGO called Sustainable Livelihood Forum that worked with the “Dalit” communities of West Nepal. In the UK, he founded a charity called Sustainable Living Initiative (SLI); the charity manages two community gardens in Norwich. He worked as programme manager in SLI for 16 years and is now retired.
