About the Speakers:
Tina Shrestha is an academic author and ethnographer affiliated with Waseda University. She completed her PhD in Anthropology from Cornell University. She is the author of Surviving the Sanctuary City: Asylum-Seeking Work in Nepali New York (University of Washington Press, 2023) which received the 2024 Shelley Fisher Fishkin Book Prize honorable mention (awarded by American Studies Association). Her research focuses on the global politics of asylum, inter-Asian mobilities, Nepali diaspora and social inequality. Her work has been published in Anthropology of Work Review, Pacific Affairs, Applied Mobilities, Studies in Nepali History and Society, Journal of Royal Anthropological Institute, and Samaj Adhyayan.
Amy L. Johnson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Government and Sociology at Georgia College & State University, USA. She received her PhD from Yale University’s Combined Degree Program in Anthropology and Environment in December 2020. Among other articles, she is the author of "Mapping Local Federalism in Nepal: An Exercise in Constitutional Cartography" published in Studies in Nepali History and Society in 2022.
