‘Nepal-India Border’ and ‘Across the Border’ in Nepali Maoist Partisans’ Narrative

The issue of ‘Nepal-India border’ and ‘across the border’ have found ample space in Nepali as well as foreign writers’ literary maneuvers for quite a long time. Particularly, during and after the ten-year war launched by the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) in 1996, these issues occupied eminence in Nepali consciousness and manifested in many literary writings. In this study, we examined the representation of crossing ‘Nepal-India border’ and living ‘across the border’ in the personal accounts of Nepali Maoist partisans through conventional qualitative content analysis. The analysis revealed four overarching categories, namely traversing the border, unfairness to Nepalese, micromanagement of Nepali politics, and anarchy in the Maoist party. The discussion over these categories spotlight the fact that the Maoist partisans’ representation of Nepal-India border and across the border appear in more negative light than in the earlier literary rendition.
